Opening Ceremonies
Opening ceremonies will begin at 12:45 pm. This is a moment to remember what brought us here - to recall the images of homelessness, and the brutality of living outside in the New England winter. Opening ceremonies will give you an emotional touchstone to start your walk. From here, we will start our journey. You may want to invite family and friends to share in the excitement and anticipation of the journey to come.

The Route
Your route has been carefully chosen for safety and beauty. The backroads of Holliston and Sherborn await you on this special walk. The route will be well marked and crossing volunteers will assist you in safely crossing intersections. Once we start the walk, we will stay on the sidewalks and on the right side of the street between the police details.

If You Are Unable To Continue Walking
If you are unable to complete the walk for any reason, four sweep vehicles, one covering each route segment, will be happy to pick you up and take you to the beginning or end of the walk; whichever is closer.

Medical Emergencies
In the event of an emergency, call 911, then immediately report any medical emergencies to the Winter Walk cast, Winter Walk sweep vehicles, and the police details that will accompany the walk. We have a medical team to assist you.

Weather
In the event of rain or light snow, the walk continues. In case of severe weather, sweep vehicles and the shuttle bus will pick up walkers and convey them to the end of the walk at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston, Lower Church.

Finishing Line
You will be celebrated at the end of your walk as you pass through the gate at the finish line at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8 Church Street, Holliston, MA 01746-2120. Here you may use the church restrooms and rest indoors if you wish, before taking the bus back to our starting point.

Shuttle Service
At the end of the walk, a shuttle bus will take walkers back to the beginning of the walk at the Pilgrim Church. The shuttle bus will operate about every 30 minutes from 230-4pm and run continuously between The Pilgrim Church in Sherborn and the St. Mary’s Church in Holliston.

Refund Policy
Registration fees and donor contributions are not refundable.

The Spirit of the Walk
Winter Walk is about ending homelessness, one step at a time. It’s about doing something about homelessness, rather than averting your eyes. It’s about realizing your own ability to effect change in our world.

Winter Walk is also about basic human kindness. It’s about thoughtfulness and creating a world that comes together in courage and love to make a difference; a place where people lend others their cell phone to call for assistance, or share an extra bottle of water, or a word of encouragement. Not because they were asked, but because they offered. It’s a place where a fast walker slows a bit to cheer on a slower walker. It’s a place where people feel like heroes; because they are.

Safety Policies
Your safety is our first priority; make it yours, too. So, stay alert and stay alive.

  • Use the sidewalks when available.
  • Walk on the right side of the street and between the police details.
  • Although police details will be active on the walk, the roads are not closed during Winter Walk so use caution around traffic.
  • Walk not more than 2 abreast; single file is safer.
  • Please obey police and Winter Walk volunteer instructions and signals.
Unsafe behavior is cause for immediate expulsion from the walk. If you don¹t know what unsafe behavior is, please ask.
  • No headphones or unnecessary cell phone usage; stay alert and stay alive.
  • No alcohol or drugs (except those prescribed by a physician) are allowed on the walk.
  • If you bring a pet, please make certain to clean up after your pet. Our goal is to leave the street cleaner than we found it.
  • Lastly, please remember to bring any medications that you may need with you (e.g. inhalers for asthma, epi pens for insect allergies, nitroglycerin tabs for angina)

Have a great walk!
