The event
Winter Walk is a 5-mile inter-faith walk from St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sherborn to the First Congregational Church in Holliston via country roads, to raise money for HomeStart. It will take place from 1 pm - 4 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2009.
Registration
Click here to register online or fill out and return the registration form with $15 to HomeStart, 105 Chauncy St., Boston, MA 02111.
Fundraising goal
We encourage you to collect donations from your colleagues, friends and
family. Set your fundraising goal here so that they can help you reach your
goal. Each Winter Walker commits to raising at least their stated goal (we
suggest $200). You may have never raised that much money before, but don't
worry. Once you start talking to your family and friends about your
commitment to fight homelessness, you'll be surprised by their generosity.
You can take your first step in ending homelessness. Start your fundraising
by making a personal donation!
Walking in the winter
This event promises to be great a experience for all involved! The safety
and the medical well being of each participant is our top priority, and we
require that each participant sign a medical release form prior to the
event. Those with medical conditions must provide a medical clearance note
from their physicians in order to participate.
Preparation
Although the distance of the walk is relatively short, please
prepare for this event seriously to participate in it to the fullest. The
course is 5-miles long and most should be able to complete the walk in under
2 hours. Those who are not very active should start walking more now, and be
able to walk 1-2 miles comfortably to complete the course.
Clothing and gear
Please be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing that is
weather appropriate, (coats, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves).
Food and drink
We suggest you eat a light meal to give you energy a few hours before
walking to avoid stomach cramps. Hydration is important, but you should not
drink more than usual before the walk. It is a good idea to bring a drink
and snacks with you during the walk but not so much that it weighs you down.
For your safety
Sweep cars will travel the course and a medical "tent" will be at the start
and end of the course. We suggest that a member of each participant group
carry a cell phone with them to ease the assistance process (phone numbers
will be provided). Those with asthma should bring their inhalers with them.
We hope your preparation for the walk will make our comprehensive medical
support system minimally utilized during the event. We look forward to a
great event that is memorable for the right reasons!
